Prospective Councillor Evening
16th February 2011, 6.30pm (light buffet) for a 7pm start


All 57 seats on Waverley Borough Council are up for election in May this year, and as a local resident or business person living or situated in Farnham, Godalming, Haslemere or Cranleigh (and surrounding villages), you can stand for election to be a Borough Councillor.

You may already be a town or parish councillor or you might be new to this and just have an interest in politics and helping your local community, but if you are thinking about standing and would like to know what it actually involves, please come along to a free event next month, on Wednesday 16th February at 6.30pm for a 7pm start at Waverley Borough Council offices in Godalming.

The programme for the evening will include a number of short talks by the Mayor, Leader, Chief Executive and current Members who will explain what its like to be a Councillor and what a Councillor does. There will also be information about the election process and what you will need to do to stand for election. There will be an opportunity for questions and a light buffet will be available from 6.30pm.

Coming to the event does not put you under any obligation to stand for election in May and you do not need to be a member of any political party. You just need a genuine interest in what happens in Waverley and the area in which you live or work.
