The Parish Friends are a group of people from within the Parish who offer their services as a help in time of need. The need can be of a practical nature such as giving lifts to hospital for appointments or visits, shopping, or it can be someone to listen in time of trouble. Each area has a representative but you can, of course, contact any Friend at any time.

TARNS are a team of volunteers whose primary aim is to assist those living within our area who are less able than ourselves. We provide transport to appointments at the doctors, dentist, hospital, etc. for just a small donation. We will also help with shopping, collecting prescriptions, changing library books etc. If you have a need we will endeavour to help you – all you need to do is ask. We aim to complement the existing services, not replace them. We are a self-funding organisation relying on the donations of our clients to reimburse our volunteers for any expenses they incur. The TARNS Helpline is usually manned between 10.00am and 12.00 noon Monday to Friday; we are closed on Bank Holidays.

Village Lunch
The Village Lunch is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month except December. It takes place in the British Legion Hall at Shortfield Common from 12 noon. A two-course lunch costs £3.50 and the food is prepared by a team of volunteers. Coffee or tea cost an additional 20p. All ages are welcome and there are special rates for children. Transport can be provided if necessary. As well as lunch there is a charity stall and raffle. This is organised by a different fund-raising organisation each month.
